The grate temp will run higher than the BGE thermometer.
The clip attached to the grate will also be running higher. You need something to hold the probe clip above the grate. Some probe companies make such a device. Also, if you haven't tested and adjusted the thermometer on your BGE you should do so. Hope this helps some.
