I quit doing super hot cleaning burns after the base on my first large cracked nearly all the way around. I'm not sure that the heat is what caused it but being a suspicious type old redneck that"s what I blamed it on. The egg wasn't under warranty because at the time I wanted one their web site said there were no dealers within 250 miles,so I bought it on line. A month or 2 before this happened Sam's Club had 4 Eggs on the floor just before July 4th,I waited until after the holiday weekend and went in to find that they had 1 left and it was marked down to,If my memory is right,$459 so I grabbed it.
Couple of years later Mr. Leroy posted a thread about some super duper epoxy patching material so I ordered some and after cleaning the egg real well used this stuff to patch the crack. I then ordered a new gasket from RRP and when I was sure it was as good as I could get it I gave it to a real good friend who really loved the Egg food but being a young man in the Navy with a young family couldn't afford one. That was 4 years ago and he has been transferred across the country and it's still working fine.
I keep my Eggs clean but just don't do the high heat burns and haven't killed anyone yet.
