I need a temp control device. I have been looking at the FireBoard and the SmartFire BBQ ones. Has anyone purchased either of these? Or is there another one out there that is better than both of those?
Side note, I bought the BGE Genius. The table I have for my setup doesn't allow the fan to fit. I need a fan that is flat on the top and hangs low not high.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks y'all.

I have been a fan of the BBQ Guru after Shotgun Fred first invented it! And bought my first one maybe 17 years ago. Then copycats came along. Then after 14 years my first BBQ Guru puked and I bought another one. Guess what...I have NEVER used my new one even ONCE!
Save your coins - you really DON'T need one with a BGE!
BTW the only reason I even bought my first one was to egg butts lo & slo...and then I learned how turbo butts produce the IDENTICAL results in a fraction of the time!
Save your money! *********

have been using a BBQ Guru for several years. I like is the flexibility it gives me - can be on the golf course , 20 miles away, monitor and control a low and slow cook via my smart phone and the internet. Also same feature helps when I'm in the house enjoying the A/C and have a cook on the Egg during a 90 plus degree day. Guru allows real time monitoring of pit temp and two cooks at the same time. It works on both my small and large eggs
Hope this helps

I actually have the CyberQ wifi currently, but hate that fact that I can't leave my own house to monitor the BGE. Mine is older, but it just seems so archaic. I'm not sure if BBQ Guru has better ones now. I'm sure they do, I just like the app functionality of the others out there.

would sure love to see someone write a *good* BGE guide then because I'm still trying to "learn" and not getting super far. sorry, pet peeve, "oh just learn how to cook with the egg..." THEN TELL ME HOW! lol
OP, I'm in the process of gathering parts & getting ready to put one of these together: https://store.heatermeter.com/ it's not a turnkey but a lot cheaper & utilizes temp probes you might already own from thermoworks. I'm trying to move on from an original Stoker Dad left me with his egg last spring.

I can only speak for myself, it's trial & error (Learning) if you get the it too hot it will take a long time to g_t

yes it sure will be, I ordered the kit so I can live dangerously between parts and 3d printer filament (I have a Prusa i3 3d printer) about 80 bucks in so far...

got my heatermeter kit in the mail and assembled. They have pre-soldered kits but I got the DIY solder one. Swapped the fan from the Rock's BBQ Stoker blower (old one is 5v, new one is 12v). Printed my own case and pulled a Raspberry Pi from another project. It works!

I have the smartfire. Great device that has allowed me to sleep when doing overnight cooks, that's a real gift especially when cooking for Christmas lunch. Stefan
