Comfort Food Season Begins...

Had our fist touch of frost here in the Ozarks Saturday morning, so today seemed a good day for cheesy scalloped potatoes and ham. It is sooo good with a touch of smoke on the Egg.

Frost already in the Ozarks? Where are you located say in relation to Columbia, Jeff City, or Bagnell Dam?

We had a threat of Jack Frost for Friday night, but escaped it up here in mid Illinois.

My wife and I are from Centrala, Mo up there between Columbia, Moberly and Mexico.

I'm down south in the Branson area. There was a touch of frost on the Egg Saturday morning. It was back up to 70 this afternoon, but Fall has definitely arrived.

Never did "get" seasonal cooks. If I want chili or beef stew in July, I'll cook it in July. You eat other hot foods in the summer, why not scalloped potatoes? The only exception is foods that are simply not available at certain times of the year. Mom had a great cranberry salad recipe that I was in the mood for a few years ago. Went to the store and they had no cranberries! They told me to come back in the Fall/Winter.

Usually don't really crave heavier dishes when it's hot and humid. When it cools off and starts feeling like Fall and Winter, soups and casseroles are on the menu for me.
