The EGGfest - A Short History

Willard "Bill" Miller
David Miller is our co-webmaster, David and I have been friends since 1987. His dad, Willard "Bill" Miller (USN, RIP), started the FIRST BGE forum back in 1996 during the early days of the Internet, on his own initiative, without any assistance from corporate or Ed Fisher, the owner of BGE. Bill created the FIRST and ORIGINAL forum because he loved his EGG and wanted to create a community for others "EGGers" to virtually "meet" and share their experiences, ideas, tips, techniques and also get assistance from the community.

Eggtoberfest
Bill coined the name "EGGtoberfest". It started as a competition between a bunch of Primo users and EGGers on the forum and, essentially, a "throwdown" ensued. The Primo folks pulled out (they knew they were already beaten). The forum members then decided to get together anyway, with their own EGGs, and just cook and socialize. Bill Miller told Ed Fisher he was welcome to come. Eventually, Ed started bringing some BGE's for folks to use.

EGGfests
EGGfests were rather "organic" in origin and grew out of EGGtoberfest. As Ed Fisher started sending more and more eggs over the years to EGGtoberfest, dealers and others took notice. After seeing the success of EGGtoberfest and the quality of product produced on the EGG, a light bulb went off, and dealers started to emulate the EGGtoberfest spirit, though on a smaller scale. The rest, as they say, is history.

The Platesetter
I couldn't let one other important contribution by Bill Miller be overlooked. He also invented the Plate Setter as you know today.

Bill Miller drew up the drawings for a much improved platesetter over what BGE was offering at the time and showed them to Ed Fisher, owner of BGE, who had them put into production. It is the Platesetter you see today.

So there you have it, as told to me by David. Your comments and feedback are welcome.

P.S. And yes, in case you were wondering, Brenda "The EGG Queen" Miller that many of you have seen at EGGtoberfest and EGGfests is Bill's wife and David's Mom.

Wow! I had no idea this was how it started. Thank you for the information. I have had bad information since we started ours in 2009. And I have shared the wrong stories with folks also.

Thanks

I have been around since about late 2001 or early 2002 and I appreciate the history lesson and that this forum is still up and running.

Cheers,
