Referring to your crab post below, were they frozen when you bought them or had the store defrosted them?

Thanks,
Old Bordello

did you find a local place selling them. if you are having them shipped in its probably a better idea to wait til october when the crab season starts

I did not answer your question, am considering having a small amount shipped in so I (hope) to get the real thing. Guess I'm not too trusting. LOL From what I have read they should not smell or taste fishy.

Thanks,

i dont get them often enough to see a difference with the legs, and its not like cracking the claws of a big hard shell maine lobster. with the king crab legs, you can thaw them out with running water, they are generally already cooked, you are just warming them up

if paying top dollar i would wait for the season to start, all the kings are cooked and flash frozen so its pretty much all of last years stock right now from alaska. the local place would be fine for these and they will let you buy one just to try it

OK, I was just worried they might try to slip an inferior product from elsewhere.

Bob, they were frozen and I thawed them at home. It's fine to buy them frozen.

The ones you don't want to buy frozen is stone crabs.

And king crab is better than snow crab, in my opinion.

Bob, NO fish should be fishy. If it is, don't buy it.

OH, guess that is why I don't eat fish, never been near one that did not smell like "fish". (

Seems to me your best bet is to buy flash frozen fish. Caught in an ocean somewhere, cleaned and frozen immediately and then shipped to wherever.

Ha, Old Bordello is learning but I'm an old bird & a little slow when it comes to "fish". My Mom & Dad used to eat canned sardines, I could not & still cannot stand the smell of them. Yuck. LOL

I enjoy canned sardines from time to time. Kippered herring too. Even canned tuna. None are real fresh fish, but tolerable. Lighten up, Francis!
